How to prepare for your tattoo session:
So you’ve got a new tattoo appointment coming up and you want to know how to prepare for a new tattoo.
Hydrate
I have found that clients that lotion the area to be tattooed, for a few weeks up to the day of the tattoo, tend to have smoother results and I don’t have to fight the skin as much. This helps the tattooing process go much faster due to being able to focus more on the design, rather than the canvas I’m working on.
Also, your skin is an organ. So, the more hydrated you are the better your skin will take ink as well, resulting in better healing. It’s a good idea to drink at least 1 to 2 liters of water a day at least a week in advance.
Sleep
It’s a good idea to get a good night’s sleep the night before. Being well rested prepares your body and endorphins for a tough session. You’ll be able to sit longer too! But hey, I don’t mind if you fall asleep while being tattooed. As long as you don’t move or kick me!
Eat
Be sure to eat a big breakfast before your session. Depending on how big your tattoo is, you might be here a while. Also, eating gives your body fuel to produce those endorphins you need to manage pain. Eating before also helps people from passing out!
Feel free to bring any drinks and snacks you want to help you through the day. You probably won’t have time to go get food on our short breaks so come prepared. I also have a fridge to keep food cold and a microwave to heat it up! As a side note, I try to take a break every hour or so to get a decent stretch in and get some water. Perfect time for a snack!
